Day 10- Perseverance is continuing something previously started even if it gets to be a struggle, even if it is difficult or unpopular. For example, continuing to love others even if our society as a whole does not appear to love sometimes.
It is taking a stand against racism when you live in a state that has more racists than non-racists. It is supporting the rights of people who are not of the privileged race in our culture, even if you have friends that do not support your efforts.
It is continuing to move forward with an agenda based on love, tolerance and compassion, even if the government is made up mostly of racist, conservative, closed-minded bigots who only care about making more money and staying in power.
Perseverance is staying the course. It is staying in school to get a good education when you are tempted to get a job so you can have a little spending money.
Perseverance is staying in a marriage because you love the person you are married to, even if they are not perfect, and they irritate you often. It is forgiving when you feel like attacking. It is commitment to an ideal or passion. It is staying in it for the long haul.
Perseverance is a spiritual principle that deserves attention. Giving up is not a positive principle. Giving up is an attitude for losers. Winning is all about staying focused even when you are tempted by distractions and reasons to quit.
Meditation for today: I choose to persevere in my attempt to make a better life for myself, and to be a positive influence in society.
Prayer for today: God, help me to persevere in the right way.
