Day 15 – Hope is a feeling of expectation accompanied by a strong desire for a certain thing to turn out as we want. I hope this book turns out as I want. I hope it is helpful to all who read it. I hope you understand what I am writing. We all have hope unless we are truly depressed, in which case we feel no hope at all. I have felt that before and it is not a pleasant place to be.
Many years ago, John Lennon spoke of hope in a song. “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will live as one.”
John wanted to see a world without war and hate, as many people do. We all have hope that someday things will be better, but whether that actually happens is not yet known. Our hope is what keeps us going. That is why it is so important not to give up even if things look bad. We need hope in order to carry on.
In addition, former president Barack Obama said, “The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”
I agree with him; it helps to do something even if it only helps a little bit. At least that is something. I have heard it said that it’s better to light one candle than to curse the darkness. That makes a lot of sense if you think about it.
We need to be proactive and make things happen, not just sit back and wait for someone to make it happen. They may be waiting on us. Life is to be lived, not watched from the sidelines. I hope this little meditation encourages you to go for what you want. Let hope be your motivation. Dream it and go get it.
Meditation for today: I want to shoot for my dreams, and hope it all goes well. If I don’t try I will most definitely not accomplish anything.
Prayer for today: God, please don’t let me run out of hope.
