Day 23 – I once heard a preacher say, “Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.” I like that. If you are familiar with the beatitudes in the Bible that will probably put a smile on your face, but if you are not, then I am not sure.
How do you feel about change? Do you like it? Many folks do not. It scares them, and the unknown can be daunting sometimes. I totally understand. However, we need to get out of our comfort zone to grow. That is a fact.
Technology is sometimes the cause of people’s fear. They are intimidated by changing the way they have always done things and they don’t want to upgrade to high tech. My mother was a good example. She was the type of person that thought it was horrible to miss a phone call. After all, it could be a child or grandchild in need of rescuing. She would not chance that. Therefore, I decided to help her out. I bought her a cordless phone, so she could carry it around with her in her apartment. But, guess what? She did not do that. Each time I went to visit her the phone receiver was in its cradle. She could not be flexible and break the old habit of keeping the phone on the hook.
Another area that often is out of our control is job duties and responsibilities. Very often people are put in positions at work, or around people at work, that are not to their liking, and it requires a bit of flexibility and adjusting.
The weather is something we can’t change, so we often have to be flexible. If we plan to play golf on Saturday morning and it comes a big storm at that time then we need to be flexible, and change our day plans. If we just moan and groan about it and let it ruin our day then the whole weekend can be miserable for us, but if we have a plan b prepared, then we can still have a great day.
Meditation for today: I need to be willing to change my plans when things beyond my control occur.
Prayer for today: Lord, please help me to be flexible.
