If you have been paying attention to my blog you know I have previously posted a couple of emails between Democrat candidate Blair Walsingham and myself. Well, here is email number three in the series.
Hello Blair,
Thanks for responding to my recent email. That is more than Diana has done. She just ignores me even though I have reached out to her several times. The fact that you actually replied tells me there is a morsel of hope that we can agree to dialogue on some issues.
You mentioned my earnest desire for change in America, and I believe you share that desire; I just happen to believe one big change needed is the way we do politics.
For example, you have taken the traditional and acceptable route of constant begging for money, and you even boast of all the resources you have at your disposal, and pointed out that I haven’t collected $5,000. Well, guess what? I haven’t tried to get any contributions, nor do I plan to.
In my opinion, money should be taken out of politics. It should not be about money. We know that Diana used her money and connections to get the Republican nomination. Are you OK with that? I am not.
When I was in elementary school I was taught that our government is supposed to be of the people, by the people, and for the people. That is good enough for me. We need to go back to that.
Nowadays, as you know, our government is full of millionaires and billionaires, and they make all the decisions that only help themselves and their rich buddies, and Diana’s nomination is a very good example of that.
You say you don’t like to think that Republicans and Democrats are on opposing sides, but they are exactly that way. Democrats and Republicans barely tolerate one another these days, and in some cases that doesn’t even happen. I get verbally attacked frequently on social media by the Republicans, and I am even with them on their two favorite issues, the 2nd Amendment and Pro-life.
You say the two parties share more values than the media and partisan leadership has led us to believe, and perhaps that is a good point, but Democrats are a lot more compassionate in my opinion. Republicans can’t stand the thought of someone else having a break they didn’t get. They want to make sure everyone earns anything they get, and if they happen to be poor or a minority then they are automatically suspect. You know that is true, Blair, so don’t pretend the two parties are the same.
I do believe there are good people on both sides, and also both sides have their share of losers, haters, and agitators. But, let’s talk about an in-between group for a moment, the people who have not sold their soul to either party. You know, us Independent-minded people. We exist in a greater number than most Repubs and Dems want to admit. And that is the direction we need to move toward in our society.
Our future as a country depends on our willingness and success at coming together for the good of us all. We need to stop all this partisan bickering and work together. You say you want the two of us to work together, but you have not stated you are willing to come toward the center. An invitation to be a guest on your podcast is hardly an olive branch; it sounds more like a set-up that only a sucker would accept. I am not that sucker, Blair. We will not play ball on your home court. How about someone host a conversation where the two of us could be a guest on their TV show? That way everyone in the 1st District can see it. With all your aforementioned resources I am sure you can arrange that.
I do agree our current opponent is positioning herself to run against everything that you and I are fighting for. You and I do both want to see the 1st District thrive. She wants to expand her wealthy conservative base. In fact, she is doing that daily as she tours the district, having her power lunches and business meetings with the elite of the state.
You say there is nothing more important to you than lifting people up and pursuing policies that will make a difference in the day to day lives of your fellow Americans. Great, then let’s sit down together and have that conversation in a public arena on TV. Let’s do that for the good people of Tennessee.
God bless, and have a great day. I eagerly await your reply.
Respectfully,
Steve Holder
