I can’t believe this actually needs to be taught to people at this point in our history, but some folks seem to forget, or they never learned, so here is a short history lesson for those of you in America who deny the reality of systemic racism.
When our American system of government was started, and for many years after, only wealthy white men could vote. Did you catch that. Wealthy. White. Men.
So when someone tells you our nation was not founded on racism, sexism, and classism, tell them to read a history book. This country was created by, and for, rich white dudes.
Now, here we are in 2020 and minorities, poor folk, and women are still having to fight for their rights. Look at who is running for President of the U.S. Two wealthy white men. Coincidence? I doubt it.
But, here is some good news for the people of Tennessee 1st Congressional District. There are no wealthy white dudes in the mix. We do have a wealthy white woman, and a non-wealthy white woman, and an old white dude who is a long ways from being wealthy. So, be happy about that folks of Northeast Tennessee. There will be no rich white dude winning the 1st District seat for a change.
