Yesterday I blogged about my beginning to help bring some awareness to the Arthur Smith murder in 1979 in Ohio, and the case of George Skatzes who was framed for Mr. Smith’s death. There is so much information available that clearly says that Skatzes was framed, and that the District Attorney at that time made some shady deals with some shady characters.
Today, as well as yesterday, I had a phone call with Sheila Lile who is the daughter of Arthur Smith. She maintains that George Skatzes did not kill her father, and she and her siblings have never believed Skatzes had anything to do with the murder.
She told me about how a man named Jimmy Rogers made a deal with the District Attorney and told a pack of lies in order to get himself out of prison by framing George Skatzes. She claims that Rogers was a very dangerous man who had a history of violence and lying under oath. It appears Rogers’ wife, Diane, also told some tall tales to get her husband out of prison, and she was also a known liar who had a habit of lying under oath. Together, they painted a picture of George Skatzes being a dangerous man, and the media ran with that narrative. After that, it wasn’t difficult for the court to find him guilty. Hopefully, the truth will eventually come out.
