Captured in a video that quickly went viral, Johnson was seen harassing two Hispanic workers, leading to widespread outrage and a swift response from law enforcement.
On January 31, 2025, officers from the Sullivan’s Island Police Department responded to a call on Ion Avenue regarding a person allegedly operating a vehicle without a license. However, it was a subsequent video brought to their attention that revealed the true nature of the encounter. In the footage, Johnson approached two men seated in a truck, accusing them of driving without a license. He proceeded to insult and threaten them, at one point seizing the driver’s keys to prevent them from leaving. His derogatory remarks included, “You don’t even speak fucking English. What’s wrong with you? They’re coming…” and “This is my job. This is my truck. I own this country.”
Following the video’s circulation, law enforcement officials conducted a thorough investigation. Johnson turned himself in to the Sullivan’s Island Police Department on the night of January 31. He was subsequently charged with multiple offenses:
Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer: Johnson falsely presented himself as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during the confrontation.
Larceny/Fraudulent Removal or Secreting of Personal Property: For taking the vehicle keys without permission.
Assault and Battery in the Third Degree: Related to the threats and aggressive behavior exhibited during the incident.
After his arrest, Johnson was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center for booking. He has since posted bond and been released from custody.
